
Special Hours for Road test starting May 30th and ends after June 8th, 1pm to 6pm (Monday thru Thursday).
To take a DPS Road Test you must be 16 years of age or older and have a Valid Texas Learner or Temporary Permit with your picture on the document. DPS Road Test can be scheduled on Monday thru Thursday and Saturday thru Sunday. The Business Office is open Monday thru Thursday 9am to 4:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 3pm. DPS Road Test appointments are available Monday thru Thursday 1pm to 3:40pm; Saturday and Sunday 9am to 2:40pm. Please call the office to schedule an appointment for an Adult Private Driving Lesson per one hour.
Take your road test through HEB Driving School, a DPS-authorized third party testing location. The location of the Road test is at 505 North Industrial Blvd., suite 500, Bedford, TX 76021. Please call 817-786-8043 if you have any questions.
HEBDS Third-Party Skills Testing (TPST) program was implemented on September 1, 2014, authorizing Commercial Driver Education schools that meet requirements set by the TX Department of Public Safety to administer the driving skills examination.
HEB Driving School is an approved Third-Party Skills Testing school and may administer the driving skills examination to those who meet the criteria.
Please arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled appointment time. Please have copies of your required information listed below at the time of your DPS Road Test:
If you are 16 years of age or older:
- Must have a legal guardian present at the time of the test
- Possess a valid DE-964, PT certificate showing you have completed a Minors Driver Education Course with a copy of 30-Hour Behind the Wheel Parent Log.
- Have a valid Texas learner license for a minimum of six months and has not expired.
- A certificate from the DPS Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) video and dated within 90 days of the skills examination. To access the Impact Video, click on the link to find more information on the ITAD program here.
- Proof of Insurance on the car that you will be testing in except when you use HEB's car.
- Parent 30-hour log (20 hours during the day and 10 hours after dusk). No more than one hour or less a day. If you log the hours on HEBDS system, then go to www.schedule2drive.com to print the report.
If you are 18-24 years of age:
- Possess a valid DE-964 or ADE-1317 showing completion of a Driver Education Course
- Must have a valid B restricted (Learner's Permit) Texas driver license. The License cannot be expired.
- A certificate from the DPS Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) video and receive a certificate dated within 90 days of the skills examination. To access the Impact Video, click on the link to find more information on the ITAD program here
- Proof of Insurance on the car that you will be testing in except when you use HEB's car.
- Please Note: If a student is 18-24 years of age on the scheduled test date and has a DE-964 or PT certificate they must follow the 16-17 year old ITTD requirements.
If you are 25 years of age or older:

Must have a valid B restricted (Learner's Permit) Texas driver license. The License cannot be expired.
- A certificate from the DPS Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) video and receive a certificate dated within 90 days of the skills examination. Please note: While the DPS Impact Texas Adult Drivers is still in development, you can take the Impact Texas Young Drivers program in its place. - Proof of Insurance on the car that you will be testing in except when you use HEB's car.
If you are older than 25 and are applying for a Texas driver's license for the first time, you are not required to have completed driver education, however, it is highly recommended.
All Age Groups:
- All documents required for your age group must be printed, we cannot print documents for you and we cannot accept any digital forms or on your phone.
- Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to go through the paperwork requirements.
The DPS-approved Road Test fee is $75.00. If you should fail a DPS Road Test, you will have 2 more attempts to pass the Road Test with no additional cost. Clients are welcome to reserve the use of one of HEB Driving School vehicle for your road tests, for an additional fee of $50.00. In order to be eligible for a refund, we require at least a 72-hour notice prior to the cancelation of an appointment. Rescheduling within that 72-hour window may incur a $25 rescheduling fee.
If possible, please contact us ahead of your scheduled road test, in to confirm the availability of a road test vehicle. If you decide to use your personal vehicle for the road test, this vehicle must have a current inspection/registration sticker, front and rear license plates, and a paper copy of proof of vehicle liability insurance.
